Job description

Interpath Advisory is looking for a senior candidate to join the eDiscovery function within the Digital Forensics unit. This is a leadership role and suitable candidates will be expected to have a minimum 10 years' relevant experience.

We would expect an experienced candidate to have run large eD projects, with some experience of assisted review / machine learning techniques in that context. It's likely the successful candidate will be able to reference clients who have worked with them before and who would recommend them (we are not looking for a substantive following but would expect someone who has been an active eD project manager to be known and liked by various clients/law firms).

This role will be aligned to both the growing Forensic practice as well as Interpath's wider Digital, Data and Technology capabilities.

The eDiscovery and Digital Forensics unit is typically engaged to assist with data collections, processing and review support in the context of investigations, disputes, turnaround, restructuring and process improvement engagements and other critical business issues. The team’s advisory work involves large and diverse data sets across client enterprises including email, servers, cloud storage, social media, mobile devices, instant messaging, and collaboration tools. The team works with data analytics and subject matter experts to assess and support the needs of the client's specific situation.

Role Overview:

The Director (or Assistant Director) role will involve the development and oversight of all aspects of the operation of the unit. The Director/Assistant Director will be expected to be market-facing, with strong client relationships as well as the experience needed to run the operation on a day-to-day basis. This would include:

  • business development and client management;
  • recruitment, team management and mentoring;
  • infrastructure and technology management and oversight (including engagement with technology suppliers and partners);
  • establishing processes to follow industry standard procedures for data collection and documentation, understanding the EDRM model and planning for downstream processes, and to provide consulting services to clients when analysing data;
  • applying advanced, strategic approaches to assist clients with complex information management challenges by combining forensic analysis, data analytics, sophisticated technology tools, and information management know-how to help clients make well-informed decisions
  • working closely with the project team to become familiar with the clients' objectives and challenges and to execute on critical project deliverables to ensure these objectives are met; and
  • serving as a leader and role model as part of a growing firm dedicated to its people, culture, and high-quality services.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • mentoring, supervising and delegating tasks to junior colleagues to support their day-to-day work, training and professional development;
  • assisting in the recruiting process by screening CVs and interviewing candidates;
  • building relationships with current and potential future clients, demonstrating capabilities to potential clients, and providing supporting documentation, including proposals and cost estimates;
  • networking and other business development activities and converting networking relationships to sales leads and new revenue;
  • serving as a client point of contact and the day-to-day leader in the management and execution of projects and workstreams involving the identification, collection, processing, review, and production of electronic data relevant to litigation or regulatory investigations;
  • oversight of a project management unit and involvement in the execution of that work which may include some of the following activities;
  • developing solutions and strategies for the project specific complexities of an engagement, advising on technology options and quality reviewing all stages of the process;
  • coordinating forensic collections with clients and/or Interpath’s forensics or insolvency teams;
  • advising clients on data reduction strategies including deNISTing, file extension filtering, date culling, and search term filtering;
  • advising clients regarding the efficient use of concept clustering, near duplicate identification, e-mail threading, and assisted review (predictive coding);
  • providing proactive guidance regarding format, strategy, and timelines for production of electronic data;
  • assisting in the management of finances of each engagement including documenting project budgets, adjusting budgets as appropriate, communicating changes in budgets internally and to the client, and managing the revenue forecasting and invoicing process;
  • reviewing and discussing expectations, anticipated scope of work, and project timelines with clients;
  • managing project close-out processes including data return and database archival, ensuring that clients understand the implications of on-going data retention relative to their company’s policies;
  • providing clients and Managing Directors with periodic status updates, reports, etc. throughout the engagement;
  • generating consistent and thorough documentation to support processes executed throughout the project lifecycle - specific tasks may include writing up interview notes and drafting emails, memoranda or detailed reports; and
  • increasing revenue on current engagements by identifying opportunities to cross-sell services.

Requirements:

Consulting and management skills:

  • strong people management skills with direct management experience;
  • experience of generating new business in a professional services environment;
  • significant client engagement experience;
  • highly motivated, eager to learn and able to motivate others;
  • strong team-oriented characteristics, hardworking, confident and positive;
  • ability to demonstrate excellent communication (written and verbal) and organisational skills;
  • ability to produce high quality work under strict deadlines.

Technical experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above. Preferred degree in engineering, computer science, finance, accounting, economics, information technology, forensics, data analytics, or work experience in a related field;
  • Familiarity with the EDRM and experience in using related products / tools such as: 1) eDiscovery Review/Processing Platforms (e.g. Relativity, Reveal, Brainspace, Disco, Ringtail, CasePoint, Nuix, or comparable); 2) Forensic Capture Software (e.g. EnCase, Cellebrite, Oxygen, FTK); 3) Database/Programming: (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, SQL, Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, Python); 4) Email Systems (e.g. Office 365, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino, email archive platforms); 5) System administration experience (e.g. Microsoft, Linux/Unix, or Macintosh).
